Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Universos is an app for writing and organising literary universes and RPG worlds. It runs entirely on your own computer or phone: there is no server, no sign-in, and no user account. This page explains exactly what that means in practice for your data.

These are two separate things, and it is worth saying so up front: the app, which you install, and this site, which you are reading now. The sections below cover the app first; from Cookies and site analytics onwards, the site. Neither has access to the other's data.

Your files are yours alone

Everything you write — chapters, characters, places, tags — is saved in a single file (.universo.json) on your own device. Universos never sends that file, or any part of your content, to any server.

If you sync that file between your computer and your tablet — through Google Drive, Syncthing or a USB cable, say — the syncing is done by the tool you chose, not by Universos. We have no access to those services, nor to anything transferred through them.

Usage telemetry — optional, and off until you agree

The first time you open the app, it asks whether you agree to share, entirely anonymously, a few numbers about how Universos is used. This is optional: if you decline, nothing is sent, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings.

What is collected (only if you agree)
  • A random installation number, tied to neither you, your name nor your device
  • How many chapters, entries and worlds you created
  • How many times you exported an EPUB, restored an old version or generated an image to share
  • The word count of the world currently open
What is never collected, even with telemetry accepted
  • The text you write
  • The names of your chapters, entries or tags
  • The contents or the location of your file
  • Your location, an IP address linked to you, or any personal identifier

Those anonymous numbers, when accepted, go to a Supabase database (our backend provider) configured to accept new records only — nobody, not even Universos through the app itself, can read or download that data back. They are used solely to understand, in aggregate, what is worth improving.

Update check

Once a day, the app asks universos.wlln.dev what the latest version is, so it can let you know when a new one exists. It is a plain read: the request sends nothing about you, your world, or what you write — no identifier, no content, no statistics. As with any website visit, the server records the IP address that asked, and nothing beyond that.

If you would rather the app not reach the internet for this, turn it off under Settings → About → Tell me when an update is available. Once off, no request is made at all.

Cookies and site analytics

Everything above is about the app. This site — universos.wlln.dev — is a different thing, and it measures its audience like any website: we use Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to see how many people arrive here, where they come from, which pages they read and which buttons they click.

Nothing is stored in your browser before you accept. On your first visit a notice appears with two equally weighted options — Accept and Decline — and until you choose, Google Analytics runs in cookieless mode: the visit is counted in aggregate, without creating any identifier on your device. If you accept, the _ga and _ga_<id> cookies are then stored, so the same person is not counted twice. They are first-party cookies and last up to two years.

What this site's analytics records
  • The pages visited, the language, and where the visit came from (search, a link elsewhere, direct)
  • Clicks on download buttons, on navigation links, and on links leading off the site
  • Device type, browser and approximate country
What this site's analytics never does
  • There is no advertising here: advertising consent is denied permanently, and nothing is used for remarketing or ad profiling
  • It cannot reach what you write in the app — the site and the app exchange no data
  • It does not keep your IP address: Google Analytics 4 uses it only to derive the country, and does not record it

Declining changes nothing on the site: no page stops working, no feature is hidden. And you can change your mind whenever you like through the Cookies button in the footer of any page here.

Beyond analytics, the site keeps only two things in your browser, and neither depends on consent because without them it could not remember the basics: the language you chose, and your own answer to this notice. Neither leaves your device.

Site waiting list (closed)

Before launch, universos.wlln.dev had a waiting list form. It no longer exists — the app is out, and no new email is collected. The addresses left back then are kept only for the launch announcement; they were never shared with third parties nor used for anything else. If you would like yours deleted, just ask at contato@wlln.dev.

No ads, no data selling

Universos shows no advertising, and nothing — anonymous or otherwise — is sold, rented or handed on to ad networks or data brokers.

Two third parties receive anything at all, and only if you accept: Supabase, which stores the app's anonymous usage counters, and Google Analytics, which measures visits to this site. Neither receives what you write, and neither is used for advertising.

Children

Universos is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated. Since the app has no account and no registered email, we cannot notify each person individually — the version published here is always the one that applies.
